ANNOTATION
The diversity of types and art genres of the works displayed in this exhibition reflect the creative thrust of different generations of artistsliving and working in Moldova , a country which acquired its independence in 1991. The works have been selected along the criteria of artistic expression, stylistic precision which represent authorial approaches to the task at hand as well as frankness of expression and humanism. These are qualities which are not linked to current opportunism such as adjustment to the trends of fashion or the demands of the market, which are notless noxious to the development of art than the erstwhile ideologica l dogmas. In the freedom of search shown by most authors one can notice a liberated imagination coupled with an interest in the trends of the contemporary art abroad. This does not however represent a severance from the cultura l traditions which determine the authenticity of national art, particularly the associative imagery and an inspired metaphorical language based on an exploration of what the material can offer. These qualities, which represent a spiritual heritage of the strongest masters who were able to develop in spite of the conditions created by the total itarian regime, started coming through in a wide range of tasks, and in real , poetically synthesized or abstract shapes.
